Ground Gas Risk Assessment
Core Environmental Projects (Core-EP) were engaged to provide to prepare a detailed ground gas risk assessment at a proposed redevelopment site impacted by Coal Washery Rejects (CWR). A detailed assessment of the fill material, continuous gas monitoring, Total Organic Carbon (TOC) and gas generation modelling were used to develop a multiple lines of evidence risk assessment.
By using this pragmatic approach Core-EP were able to deliver scientifically defensible approach that demonstrated lower risk from ground gas generation at the site and no need for building gas protection (e.g. membrane barrier systems). Thus, the solution provided overall cost-savings for the client while addressing the concerns of the Environmental Auditor.
