Project Solution

Core Environmental Projects (Core-EP) were engaged to design and supervise the construction of a retrofit vapour mitigation system for the construction of a multi-level basement located directly above significant chlorinated hydrocarbon (tetrachloroethylene, PCE) contamination.

Due to the discovery of latent contamination, the building protection works were required to be retrofitted within the already constructed basement. Following exploratory works and forensic testing, including sub-slab pressure field testing, Core-EP identified suitable retrofit products compatible with the building constraints, including existing concrete slabs, walls, services and ceiling heights. Documentation prepared by Core-EP included preparation of a retrofit detailed design and construction quality assurance plan.

Core-EP was subsequently engaged to complete construction quality assurance during the construction of the vapour mitigation system to independently demonstrate the protection system had been installed as intended and facilitate endorsement by the appointed EPA Auditor.
