Project Solution

Core Environmental Projects (Core-EP) were engaged to design and install a landfill gas interception system at the boundary of a former clay quarry, now closed landfill and public open space, and residential development.

Landfill gas risks at the site had been concluded by the independent risk assessor to be moderate to high, resulting in the recommendation to install pathway intervention. The solution needed to seamlessly integrate with the final built form already under construction and contain contingency controls and hardware to enable additional gas extraction if needed in the future.

The project faced specific challenges, such as incorporating the gas management systems into the medium-density residential development and safely navigating a rapid construction schedule, while working within an active construction zone.

The works completed by Core-EP involved the design, proof of concept pilot trial, supply and installation of a gas interception system along with a simple gas extraction unit, equipped with real-time remote monitoring.
