Value Engineering, Vapour Risk Mitigation System Design
Core Environmental Projects (Core-EP) were engaged to complete a vapour risk mitigation system re-design at a proposed aged-care development. The site’s history of industrial land use had resulted in significant soil contamination and unacceptable vapour intrusion risks. The remit was to design a cost-effective system while ensuring human health would be protected.
A detailed assessment of the ground conditions and proposed development was initially completed to develop remediation and mitigation options. The final design prepared by Core-EP utilised advanced modelling to demonstrate acceptable ventilation and system performance, while at the same time minimised soil excavation, cartage and disposal requirements during construction. This resulted in significant cost-savings for the client. The revised vapour risk mitigation system design was successfully endorsed by the Environmental Auditor.
