Project Solution

Core Environmental Projects (Core-EP) were engaged to mitigate unacceptable concentrations of Tetrachloroethylene (PCE) and Trichloroethylene (TCE) vapour from entering an occupied residential home, located adjacent to a former dry cleaners.

The solution involved designing and installing a Soil Vapour Extraction (SVE) system to address the vapour source of contamination and prevent further migration of PCE and TCE vapours towards the residential home. The SVE system consisted of vertical extraction wells, connected to a blower and an activated carbon filter unit.

The installation of the system was completed within a month, operated continuously and was remotely monitored by Core-EP to ensure optimal performance.

The installation of the SVE system significantly improved the indoor air quality in the residential home, reducing the PCE and TCE concentrations below the health-based screening levels. Periodic indoor air sampling and analysis completed by the environmental assessor continues to verify the effectiveness of the system and provide reassurance to the occupants of the home and the EPA Auditor.
