The Project

Core Environmental Projects were appointed to investigate and remediate a mercury spill in a private residential building. The spill had resulted in elevated mercury vapour concentrations in the indoor air breathing space and contamination of the soils beneath the building floor.

Core Environmental Projects remit comprised an iterative soil remediation approach, working within the confines of the existing building walls and geotechnical limitations, along with a continuous mercury vapour intrusion investigation and human health risk assessment.

The elevated mercury vapour concentrations proved to be isolated to one room. In order to further reduce any residual mercury vapour concentrations to low and acceptable levels, Core Environmental Projects successfully designed and project managed the installation of a vapour risk mitigation system.
